Motorcyclist second roadway fatality of weekend in Lexington County

Hollow Creek, SC (Paul Kirby) - A motorcyclist is dead after an accident in Lexington County. According to the SC Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at 11:20 p.m. Sunday night. Lance Corporal Tyler Tidwell who is a spokesman for the SCHP, said this happened on Ansel Caughman Road near Union Church Road. This is northwest of the Twin Bridges community of Lake Murray between Leesville and Hollow Creek.

According to Corporal Tidwell, a rider was operating a 1999 Harley Davidson and was travelling west on Ansel Caughman Road. At some point and for reasons unknown, that rider ran off the right side of the road, lost control, and hit a tree. The operator was not wearing a helmet and passed at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher’s team is investigating the cause and manner of death. Her staff will release the identity of the rider once full notifications are made to the rider's next of kin. The SCHP is in charge of investigating the circumstances surrounding the deadly crash.

This is the second fatal collision on Lexington County Roads over the weekend. Another man was killed near Swansea Sunday morning after a pickup he was driving was struck by another vehicle that is believed to have drifted left of center. That fatal crash happened just before 1:00 a.m.
