Lexington County Sheriff’s Department in early stages of investigation into shooting

Swansea, SC (Paul Kirby) – The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department is in the early stages of an investigation into a shooting that occurred in a rural area of the county south of Swansea. The shooting, which happened on J.K. Rucker Road close to the Orangeburg County line, occurred on the afternoon of Thursday, June 25, 2020.

According to Captain Adam Myrick of the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded Thursday to a reported gunshot wound on J.K. Rucker Road. A man was injured and was transported to a hospital where he received medical treatment. Myrick said that the department was still working to determine what happened, when it occurred, and why.

The man’s injuries appeared to be non-life threatening. Investigators will attempt to question the injured man and use every method at their disposal to establish exactly what occurred.
