Swansea police officer arrest suspect after brief manhunt Wednesday

Swansea, SC (Paul Kirby) – Swansea police officers arrested Bobby Ray Wood on outstanding warrants from three other agencies Wednesday after he tried to elude capture. The manhunt for the suspect lasted a short while before Wood eventually was captured and taken to jail.

According to Swansea officers, they were dispatched to a call out Swansea Road. When one encountered Wood and ran his information, computer records indicated he had three outstanding warrants. One was from Lexington County, another from the Lexington Police Department, and the third was from the SC Department of Parole, Probation, and Pardon (PPP). When Wood realized that officers had that information and his arrest was imminent, he took off on foot.

Other officers from the surrounding area responded to assist the Swansea police officers, and a search began. At some point, one of the officers searching heard a slight sound from under a nearby mobile home. They looked and found Wood hiding there. Apparently, he had been inside the mobile home hiding and when he feared officers were closing in, he cut a hole through the particle board floor of the home and dropped to the ground underneath. He wasn’t quite silent in this process and the sounds he made were what gave him away.

Wood was transported to the Lexington County Detention Center where he was booked on his outstanding warrants.
