Former Richland County Deputy charged by Lexington police with domestic abuse

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – A former Richland County sheriff’s deputy has been charged with Domestic Battery First Degree after he attacked his ex-girlfriend in the parking lot of the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department while the couple were exchanging their child in a custody sharing agreement. According to arrest warrants obtained by SLED, Lexington police officers arrested Aly H. Brun, 26, after committing the crime at 521 Gibson Road in the town while being filmed by an officer’s body camera, dash-cam, and at least two witnesses’ cellphone videos.

According to the warrant, Brun did this while the couple's 4-year-old child was watching. Brun’s current girlfriend apparently got into a physical altercation with his ex during the custody exchange on Saturday, August 8, 2020. Even though officers with jurisdiction were on the scene during this fight, Brun intervened pushed his ex, grabbed her from behind, pulled her to the ground, and then started choking her. That’s when he said he would kill her before squeezing her neck so hard it left visible marks. Officers have not said which of the women instigated the original altercation.

Brun was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center. Because he worked for another law enforcement agency, the Lexington officers asked that this be investigated by SLED. It will be prosecuted by the Eleventh Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
