USDA extends free meals to all students through end of December

Batesburg-Leesville, SC - Beginning on Wednesday, September 9th, Lexington County School District Three will be offering free breakfasts and lunches to all students enrolled in one of its learning platforms. This comes after the U.S. Department of Agriculture made the decision to allow summer meal program operators to continue serving free meals to all children into the fall months. This unprecedented move will help ensure that children have access to nutritious food as the country recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.

For students in the PRIDE model (face-to-face learning five days a week) at B-L Primary and B-L Elementary Schools, this news means that all children have the option of eating breakfast and lunch at their school for free each school day.

Students in the HYBRID model (mixed in-person and virtual learning) at B-L Middle and B-L High Schools will also have the option of eating breakfast and lunch at their school for free on the days that they are there for face-to-face instruction. In addition, HYBRID model students can pick up three days’ worth of breakfasts and lunches each Wednesday beginning on September 16th at the designated stops listed below. All VIP students (those completing learning exclusively from home) can also pick up meals at the designated stops listed below each Wednesday beginning on September 16th. VIP students will receive five days’ worth of breakfasts and lunches. All children under the age of five who live in the same household as a Lexington Three student are also eligible to receive five breakfasts and five lunches on the pick-up days.

Scheduled Stops Each Wednesday (beginning September 16th):

  • 9:55 am - 10:15 am - Old Hardee's on the corner of Hwy. 178 and Hwy. 23 in Batesburg-Leesville

  • 10:25 am - 10:45 am - Parking lot behind McDonald's (210 West Columbia Avenue in Batesburg-Leesville)

  • 11:30 am - 11:45 am - Dickert’s Mobile Home Park (located off Hwy. 23 towards Ridge Spring)

Please note that these new guidelines will replace all previously posted meal pick-up options for Lexington Three students.
