Cayce, SC 10/15/2022 (Paul Kirby) – The Cayce Police Department issued a statement late Saturday afternoon addressing the rumors that there were gunshots fired at the Brookland-Cayce High School’s stadium about 4:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon. People did hear fireworks being used inappropriately, but police have since confirmed that there were no gunshots.
The police said that they are investigating in an attempt to find whoever was lighting the fireworks. In most municipalities, there are laws that dictate when, where, and how often fireworks can be used. Cayce PD said in the statement posted on social media that both the West Columbia Police Department, and the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department all came together to help them investigate this particular instance. They closed their statement by saying that they were finishing up the investigation but have confirmed that there were no gunshots involved.
