Chief Student Services Officer Jeff Caldwell announces retirement

Lexington, SC 02/17/2022 - Lexington County School District One Superintendent Greg Little, Ed.D., announced this week that Jeffrey F. Caldwell, the district’s chief student services officer, plans to retire effective July 1, 2022.

Of his retirement Dr. Little says, “For more than three decades, Mr. Caldwell devoted himself to our school district, students and their families. He’s led us through times of celebration and challenges, always remaining trustworthy, dependable, compassionate and dedicated to advancing public education for all students. He mentored countless students and educators, and I am honored to call him my colleague and friend. He is well-deserving of a wonderful retirement.”


Caldwell, who has more than 36 years of educational experience, began his career as a fifth grade teacher at McLaurin Elementary School in Florence. He moved to the former Swansea Middle School in Lexington School District Four in 1986 where he taught seventh grade. He was named Teacher of the Year during his time at SMS.


After joining Lexington District One in 1989 as a seventh grade teacher at Lexington Middle School, Caldwell was promoted to assistant principal at LMS in 1990, then promoted in 1993 to principal. During his tenure at LMS, the S.C. Art Education Association named him the Middle Level Principal of the Year.


Caldwell joined Central Services in 2004 as coordinator of test administration and became director of student services in 2006.


Promoted to chief student services officer in 2017, he oversaw nursing and health services, transportation, school counseling, student administration and athletics.


Caldwell received a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Francis Marion College (now Francis Marion University) and a Master of Education in education administration from the University of South Carolina. He was named Friend of Foreign Language by the S.C. Foreign Language Teachers’ Association and is a member of the South Carolina Association of School Administrators.
