Fairview, SC 01/01/2022 (Paul Kirby) – A mobile home caught fire in the 900 block of Lee Gunter Road Saturday morning leaving one person seriously burned prior to the arrival of Lexington County Fire Service and EMS personnel. The fire was reported just after 11:15 am on the section of Lee Gunter that is between Merritts Drive and Wagener Highway not far from Fairview Crossroads.
Lexington County’s Emergency Communications Center took the call and dispatched fire equipment and personnel from a number of county stations. Several EMS crews were also dispatched as telecommunicators were receiving reports that there were burn victims on the scene of the fire. Because of the rural nature of the area, additional tanker trucks were also dispatched to supply much needed water in the absence of reliable fire hydrants in proximity to the burning home.
When firefighters arrived on scene, they found flames coming from the home and discovered at least one person seriously burned around the face and head. After a quick evaluation of the person most severely injured, the decision was made to launch a Lifenet helicopter to transport that patient to the appropriate medical facility for treatment. That person was then loaded into a county ambulance and quickly taken by ground to rendezvous with the helicopter at a nearby landing zone.
The fire crews were able to make quick work of the fire. Teams knocked the fire down and had this call under control in a short amount of time.
Lexington County has not released the cause of the fire.
