Keep the Midlands Beautiful campaign to be held this weekend across Lexington and Richland Counties

Lexington County, SC 02/08/2022 (Paul Kirby) – The Adopt-A-Highway and Adopt-A-Street cleanup volunteers will be working alongside the streets and highways of the Midlands this weekend to rid our byways of unsightly accumulated debris. This is taking place in both Lexington and Richland Counties and the City of Columbia.

The litter campaign will begin on Friday, February 11, 2022, and continue through Sunday, February 13, 2022. As they work, the volunteers will each be wearing orange reflective vests and, in most cases, they will be using some sort of vehicle with its emergency lights flashing to notify other motorist of the presence of the volunteer work crews. Once the bags of litter have been collected and stockpiled in locations alongside the roads, SCDOT crews will come by over the next few days to gather those for proper disposal.

If you are driving the area’s roads this weekend and you see a litter pickup crew hard at work, please slow down and drive with extra caution. The life you save may be someone you know or love.
