Kinetic Derby Day practice session will close Meeting Street Saturday morning

West Columbia, SC 01/27/2023 (Paul Kirby) - The City of West Columbia, SC is having a test run for their annual Kinetic Derby Day this Saturday, They will also be featuring iMAGINE Upstate's TEST RUN for the obstacle course, The activities start Saturday, January 28, 9-10 AM, followed by a build event at the Richland Library, 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM.

Meeting Street willed be CLOSED from North Witt Street to State Street from 8-11 AM. The actual test run happens from 9-10 AM. Everything begins in front of Brookland United Methodist Church which is located at 541 Meeting Street, West Columbia.

First Community Bank, Savage Craft Ale Works, and Palmetto Automatic Sprinkler Company, Inc. are this year’s obstacle course sponsors. Racers can test out the Jello Explosion and Foam Surprise obstacles. Whetzels Complete Auto Service's rollback will be onsite for the first-ever start ramp.

For information on how to build a derby entry, you can attend an instructional session at the Richland County Library, 1431 Assembly Street, Columbia, SC, 29201 from 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM Saturday as well.

This is an excellent opportunity to learn about steering, brake mechanisms, and get your soapbox car questions answered.
