Lexington County emergency personnel responds to tree down on a vehicle Monday during storms

Oak Grove, SC – 05/03/2021 (Paul Kirby) – Emergency personnel from several Lexington County agencies responded to a report of a tree that had fallen on a vehicle trapping someone inside Monday afternoon. The call regarding this emergency came in around 4:00 p.m. from an area near Augusta Road and Laurel Roads.

A strong line of storm was moving through the area at the time. A tornado warning had been issued for parts of Lexington County prior to this incident and hail and strong winds pounded the area. The Red Bank community was hit by some of the worst of the storm as thick, black, menacing clouds crossed the area.

Before firefighters and medical personnel arrived on the scene of the tree across the car, law enforcement officers got to the scene and notified other crews responding that someone was trapped in the vehicle. First responders said that a large tree had fallen across the passenger compartment of the vehicle and that time, the person inside was conscious and breathing but unable to escape.

Personnel from the fire service began to extricate the patient while crews from EMS provided medical support. Eventually, the trapped person was freed. During the entire rescue and cleanup, traffic was affected by the incident.

There is no information available at this point about the extent of the injuries to the person in the vehicle. Those are protected by privacy laws. If more information becomes available, we will update this story.
