Pine Grove, SC 11/18/2022 (Paul Kirby) – Lexington County firefighters battled several working structure fires Tuesday afternoon. One was off Bradley Drive in the Pine Grove area of Lexington County and the second was off Meadowfield Road near its intersection with Woodtrail Drive close to the Town of Gaston later in the day.
The first fire was reported in a single-family home in the 100 block of Bradley. When the first due truck arrived, the crew found heavy smoke and fire coming from the single-story home in a quiet neighborhood. They were able to pull their attack lines and advance on the fire, bringing it under control.
In this area of the county, there are fire hydrants that the trucks were able to use to establish a reliable water source for the fight. A second truck stretched a large diameter hose from a hydrant and kept the interior crews from running out of water as they worked. A neighboring home was damaged by the blaze according to the County.
According to a spokesperson for the County of Lexington, there were two people displaced by the fire. They are being assisted by the American Red Cross. Lexington County firefighters also received help from crews with the City of West Columbia Fire Department.
The second structure fire was reported about 3:00 p.m. on Meadowfield Road between the Woodtrail Drive roundabout and Fallaw Road. Before the first due fire truck arrived on scene, neighbors reported that fire was quickly consuming the mobile home.
Firefighters from across southern Lexington County rushed to the scene of the fire and began to attack it with their hoses. As more equipment and manpower arrived, the crews were able to overwhelm the fire with water and bring it under control.
Lexington County has not said if anyone was displaced as a result of this fire. Both fires are being investigated to determine the cause and origin of the blazes.
