Lexington, SC 09/09/2022 (Paul Kirby) – Lexington County’s Department of Solid Waste has 2 important events scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, September 10, 2022. One is a Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off and the other is a Rain Barrel and Backyard Compositing Workshop.
The Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off will take place at the Solid Waste Collection Center located at 1741 Calks Ferry Road just west of Lexington. It will begin at 9:00 a.m. and continue until 3:00 p.m. Materials that may be dropped off include acids, brake fluid, bug sprays, carburetor cleaners, electronics (limit 5), fertilizers and weed killers, paint and painting related chemicals such as thinners (limit 8 gals), pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, and other yard and garden chemicals, as well as old pool chemicals. This event is for households only and no businesses will be allowed to drop off any materials. There will be plenty of staff on hand to help with directions on sorting and drop offs.
The second event is a Rain Barrel and Backyard Compositing Workshop. You’d better hurry if you have an interested in this because the deadline for registration is today, September 9, 2022. The workshop begins at 9:00 a.m. at the Training Room of Lexington County’s landfill which is located at 498 Landfill Lane, Lexington, SC. The physical location is in the Edmund community of the county off Edmund Highway. The workshop should conclude at 12 noon. Participants will learn how to build their own rain barrels and start backyard composting. Both of these activities are environmentally friendly practices that are also beneficial to the end user. As stated previously, this workshop does require pre-registration, so you better do that right now if your interested in attending. That can be done on-line at Pre-Registration.
