Officers with the Lexington Police Department are investigating crash on South Lake Drive Sunday

Lexington, SC 02/06/2023 (Paul Kirby) – Town of Lexington Police Department accident investigators are looking into the cause of a collision that destroyed a car Sunday night. This happened in the 700 block of South Lake Drive near the railroad tracks and Railroad Avenue on the north side of I-20. Calls regarding this collision began coming in shortly after 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 5, 2023.

Police, EMS, and fire service all responded to this call. When the first units arrived from Lexington PD, they reported that they found a vehicle that appeared to have overturned and came to rest in the yard of a business there. They also reported that the speeding car had damaged a utility pole. This forced them to close South Lake while the pole was replaced.

At this point, the police have said that the driver of the car was operating under suspension. Excessive speed also contributed to the collision.
