One dead following crash on I-20 Wednesday

Lexington, SC 12/14/2023 (Paul Kirby) – One person died in a collision that occurred on I-20 west near Exit 44 on Wednesday, December 13, 2023. According to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher, the collision happened at approximately 2:15 p.m.

Fisher said in a statement she released Thursday that Donna Linette Brooks, 66, of West Columbia was traveling westbound on I-20 when the vehicle she was operating struck the rear of a truck. Brooks, who was wearing a seatbelt was trapped in her vehicle and the Lexington County Fire Service worked to get her out, Once she was freed, she was transported to an area hospital first by ambulance and then a medical helicopter. She was later pronounced dead due to the injuries she sustained in the accident.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Lexington County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the incident.
