South Congaree, SC 04/072022 (Paul Kirby) – The Lexington County Election Commission met this morning at 9:00 a.m. to review the votes cast and certify Tuesday's South Congaree Municipal Election. When they were through, the results had changed by just two votes representing the two absentee ballots cast in this election. One of those votes went to Kitty Spires and the other favored Brian Jackson.
The results of that Election have one of the two incumbents, Bobby Porter, losing his seat to Kitty Spires, a lifelong South Congaree resident that had previously served on the council some years ago. Spires received 118 votes while Porter received 94 ballots cast.
The second incumbent, Brian Jackson, was able to fend off challenger Jerry Smith to retain his seat on the council for another four-year term. Jackson received 106 votes while 102 votes were cast in favor of Smith.
Both Spires and Jackson will be sworn in at the next scheduled council meeting that will be held on Tuesday, April 19. 2022 at the South Congaree Town Hall’s Council Chambers.
