Samaria, SC (Paul Kirby) – A mobile home was destroyed by fire in the Samaria area of Lexington County very early Sunday morning. The fire, which was first discovered by a neighbor who lives across the street, was dispatched just after 2:00 a.m. Although the caller first gave a Haven Road address for the blaze, it was later determined that the home’s address was in the 1000 block of Samaria Hwy. near the Haven Road intersection. The first firefighters from Lexington County reported that the home was well involved in fire when they arrived.
As soon as the first crews began pulling hoses to fight the fire, more teams arrived to assist. The first due battalion chief requested additional equipment to bolster the manpower on the fire and help with water supply. There are no fire hydrants nearby, so all the water had to be hauled in via tanker trucks. That water could then be used to fight the flames consuming the home.
The incident commander later reported that there appeared to be no electricity, or any other utilities connected to the home. That same commander reported that the fire was under control in about one hour after the county received the first calls. It was marked as completely out by 4:16 a.m. That’s when all the trucks and manpower were able to leave the scene. Once arriving back in their stations, the firefighters still had to finish cleaning their equipment and reload their apparatus for the next call.
A fire engine and rescue truck out of Batesburg-Leesville responded to assist at the request of Lexington County. Paramedics and EMTs from Lexington County’s EMS also assisted the firefighters with safety. There were deputies there helping keep the scene safe as well.
Lexington County hasn’t identified the cause of the fire yet. It doesn’t appear as if anyone was injured while fighting the fire.
