2 have died in separate single-vehicle crashes over the weekend

Lexington, SC 08/11/2025 – Two people have died in single-vehicle collisions over the past weekend. One involved a motorcyclist and the second involved the driver of a sedan.

According to Corporal Nick Pye of the SC Highway Patrol (SCHP) the first deadly collision occurred on Saturday, August 9, 2008, on South Lake Drive in the Red Bank area of the county. Pye said at approximately 1:06 am a motorcyclist was traveling east on South Lake Drive near Darleen Drive when the rider lost control, went off the side of the road, and then struck a culvert. The rider died on the scene.
Lexington County Coroner Margret Fisher has identified the rider as Aaron Blake Smoak, 33, of Pelion.

The second vehicle deadly collision occurred on I-26 near the 117 mile-marker close to the Sandy Run community. This crash happened at approximately 12:18 p.m. on August 10, 2008. According to Corporal Nick Pye of the SCHP, a Mitsubishi sedan was travelling east when the driver dropped off the road, over corrected, went back across the highway and struck a guardrail.

 Lexington County Coroner Margret Fisher has identified the driver of that vehicle as Jose Gomez Rivas, 24, of West Columbia.

Both of these collisions are still under investigation by the SCHP.
