2 men charged in business burglary, thefts

Lexington, SC 11/28/2022 (Paul Kirby) – Two Columbia men have been accused of stealing cars and all-terrain vehicles from businesses located on Augusta Road in Lexington County, according to the Lexington County Sheriff Department. The department said late Monday that Ernest Michael Bell, 47, and Zannie Rashod Phillips, 29, are both charged with grand larceny, second-degree burglary, and criminal conspiracy according to arrest warrants issued by a judge.

According to Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon, after property crime investigators reviewed security camera video, they determined that Bell and Phillips cut a fence at a business in the 4400 block of Augusta Road last week and stole a 4-wheeler. “The value of the all-terrain vehicle is more than $6,000,” stated Sheriff Koon.

The Sheriff said that the pair are also charged with thefts from other area businesses along Augusta Road.

“Detectives confirmed that Phillips drove through the front gate of a business in a stolen truck causing more that $10,000 in damage,” Koon said.

Phillips is also accused of stealing two cars and a trailer near Red Bank, according to Sheriff Koon.

“Detectives continue to work open cases in which Phillips has been charged, including thefts at schools, storage facilities, and a church,” Koon said.

Both Bell and Phillips are being held at the Lexington County Detention Center.
