Toll in bar shooting now two after gunman opens fire
Chapin, SC – A spokesman for Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon has now confirmed that the toll in a shooting at the Frayed Knot bar at the Lexington / Newberry County line now includes two dead. This bar is located on the banks of Lake Murray on Dreher Island Rd. just northwest of the town of Chapin.
According to unconfirmed reports that The Ledger has received from a patron who was in the popular night spot at the time of the shooting, the shooter opened fire on the crowd after getting into a physical altercation with some other people in the bar. The source said he had been belligerent and opened fire on the crowd with a handgun after being shoved by someone. The shooter is said to have fled the scene before the arrival of law enforcement.
The Frayed Knot is located right on the county line and deputies from both Lexington and Newberry counties responded to the scene. Paramedics and firefighters from Lexington County responded, but two of the victims died as a results of their wounds. The Ledger has received word from an independent source that at least one other person had been injured in the incident, but we have not received confirmation of that from the Sheriff’s spokesman.
On Sunday morning, Captain Adam Myrick of the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department said, “We've responded to a shooting that left two people dead. It happened around midnight in the 1700 block of Dreher Island Road near the Newberry County line. No arrests have been made and detectives and crime scene investigators are interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence to determine what happened. At this time there are no other details available.
