Deputy shoots and kills suspect who hit him with vehicle at home near Edmund
LEXINGTON, SOUTH CAROLINA - Around 7:00 Monday morning, a Lexington County deputy responded to the 100 block of Glenda Court in the southern portion of the county. The deputy was responding to a call of a suspicious person in a vehicle. During the investigation, the suspicious person drove toward the deputy, striking him. The deputy then discharged his weapon.
EMS and the fire service was called and responded to the scene and the subject was pronounced dead at the scene. The deputy was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
As is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings, SLED has been brought in to investigate this incident. The deputy has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the SLED investigation and internal review of the incident.
A preliminary investigation shows that the car and license plates on the vehicle driven by the subject were both reported stolen in separate incidents and the subject’s driver’s license was suspended. The subject was currently being investigated for a burglary and pointing & presenting a firearm. There was also an active arrest warrant for drug paraphernalia on the subject.
