Midlands Lawmakers to Host Sandy Run Community Meeting for I-26 Updates

WEST COLUMBIA, SC - South Carolina Senator Nikki Setzler on Fridayannounced the details of a community meeting to be held later this month to discuss the status of the I-26 widening and repaving project near Sandy Run. The meeting will be held on Monday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. at Beulah United Methodist Church, 1577 Old State Rd in Gaston. It will be hosted by Senator Setzler, as well as Senator John Matthews and Representative Russell Ott, and will provide an opportunity for residents and motorists to hear from officials with the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT). Senator Setzler issued the following statement regarding the Sandy Run Community Meeting: “I joined with Senator Matthews and Representative Ott in calling this meeting because this project was supposed to be completed over a year ago. It still isn't done and the people of Lexington and Calhoun counties deserve to know why. "The SCDOT needs to tell to the community what happened on this project. Where are we now? Why is this taking so long? What is the plan to finish improvements to this vital stretch of roadway? "This meeting will be a chance for SCDOT officials to directly update the public and explain the lack of progress. I thank the Department of Transportation and Secretary Hall for agreeing to take part.”
