Learning takes on new meaning during summer months
LEXINGTON, S.C. — Science experiments, critical thinking projects and technology-based instruction will resume in just a few days in classrooms across Lexington County School District One. But those classrooms were far from quiet this summer, as teachers continued their own learning.
Whether a new employee or a veteran principal, staff members came together multiple times during June and July to brush up on leadership habits and acquire new skills to improve instruction.
Teachers and administrators were encouraged to share their professional learning experiences using #lex1learns and #lex1leads on social media. Like the shift in language from “professional development” to “professional learning,” talking about what they personally learned encourages teachers to take an active role in their growth as educators.
Here’s what a few teachers and administrators had to say about their summer of professional learning:
“Critical Friends training was a wonderful professional development experience that provided administrators with valuable insight on leading conversations, teams, and meetings to get the desired results. This summer, many Lexington District One staff participated in the Lexington One Summer Professional Learning Institute, professional learning sessions at individual schools and training in Critical Friends with the National School Reform Faculty, The Leader in Me, SAFE-T Evaluator, mentor teacher, etc.
Teachers returned to school on Monday, August 8, ready to implement the new ideas and strategies they stored up this summer when school starts on Monday, August 15.
