LEXINGTON POLICE DEPARTMENT RELEASES'S SCHOOL ZONE SAFETY PLAN
Lexington, S.C.– With Lexington County School District One beginning classes in schools throughout the Town of Lexington on Monday, August 15, 2016, Chief Terrence Green will have School Resource Officers, Traffic Division and Community Action Team working together on a School Zone Safety Plan to assist teachers and staff with traffic issues that may arise during morning drop offs and afternoon pickups.
The focus of the School Zone Safety Plan is for officers to monitor traffic within the school zones of the Lexington Elementary School, Meadow Glen Elementary School, Lexington Middle School, Meadow Glen Middle School and Rosenwald Community Learning Center whiling educating and directing parents and guardians to the proper drop off, pickup, and parking areas when traveling onto and off of school campuses.
Chief Terrence Green says, “With the beginning of a new school year comes a reminder to drivers to be aware when you are traveling through the many school zone areas within the Town of Lexington by reducing their speed and always be alert for children in cross walks. Please also look out for stopped school buses that are picking up and dropping off students on residential roadways.”
It is suggested that those traveling through the Town of Lexington give themselves a few extra minutes during morning commutes as additional traffic may cause congestion near and around school zone areas. .
