Serious accidents keep emergency responders busy Saturday night and Sunday morning

Lexington County, SC – Two vehicle accidents seriously injured several people late Saturday night and early Sunday morning in central and southern Lexington County. In both cases, patients were transported to our area’s trauma center at Palmetto Richland in Columbia.

The first accident happened on Pine Street near Lydia Drive in the town of Pelion at approximately 10:30 p.m. This crash involved a motorcycle whose rider went down hard and was seriously injured.

Firefighters from the Pelion fire station, assisted by personnel from Mack Edisto, quickly arrived on scene and began treating the rider, who was then transferred to an ambulance. The paramedics packaged and transported that patient and then handed off patient care to the crew of the Lifenet helicopter at Edmund First Baptist Church. The helicopter then flew that patient to the trauma center.

The second crash occurred on Kittiwake Drive at approximately 1:30 AM. Firefighters arrived on the scene to find two victims on that scene.

One person who had been ejected from the overturned vehicle was trapped underneath it. Firefighters had to extricate that person from under the car. Both of the patients were treated on scene by paramedics and firefighters before the most seriously injured one was transported to the trauma center at Richland.
