Man charged with felony DUI after fatal crash in Lexington County

Irmo, SC - The SC Highway Patrol has arrested a man and charged him with felony DUI following an accident that occurred last night at Bush River and Berryhill Roads in the Irmo area of the county. William McLellan, 57, is being held at the Lexington County Detention Center where he is awaiting a bond hearing.

According to Lance Corporal David Jones with the SC Highway Patrol, McLellan struck a 2007 Ford in the driver’s door as that vehicle was turning trapping the operator of that car in the twisted wreckage. The driver of that vehicle was transported by EMS but died a short time later.

The Irmo Fire District assisted in the extrication of the driver. They also supported the EMS crew who treated and transported the patient.
