Pelion man dies after being involved in Sunday morning crash
Edmund, SC – A Pelion man has been killed in a crash over the holiday weekend. The man was driving a Dodge pickup truck on Edmund Highway between Pleasant View and Bluff Ridge Roads when he was killed early Sunday morning.
At approximately 3:45 a.m. the driver of the pickup, traveling west towards Pelion, crossed the centerline and hit the cab of a tractor trailer truck travelling east. A GMC Yukon was behind the tractor-trailer cab and collided with it, according to a spokesman for the SC Highway Patrol.
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the individual who was killed as Kenneth Maxie Lucas, age 47, of Pelion.
According to Fisher, Lucas was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from his vehicle. He was transported to an area hospital, where he died shortly after arriving. An autopsy performed on September 4, 2016, indicated the cause of death as multiple body trauma.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was treated on the scene for minor injuries. The driver of the third vehicle was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Highway 302 was closed for about three hours Sunday morning to clean up fuel that spilled from the tractor- trailer.
