Lexington Two School Board gives itself more time to consider their options before naming new elemen

Cayce, SC - Lexington County District Two’s Board of Trustees has decided to spend more time considering additional input before naming a new elementary school. The school will be located on Bulldog Boulevard off the 12th Street Extension near Busbee Creative Arts Academy in the city of Cayce.

The board’s member said they haven’t had enough time to review the list of names to make a decision on naming the school. The list was just given to the board for consideration this week.

Several proposed names stood out to the board at their latest public meeting. Those names were Cayce Elementary and Ottarre Elementary.

The new elementary school, one of a number of projects that are under construction after a bond referendum for facilities improvement passed several years ago, is being built on a piece of property that is known as the Otarre Tract. That was the name of a Native American tribe that once inhabited that area in and around Cayce according to one district official.

The list of proposed names was compiled by a committee that included parents, teachers, district staff and community members.
