Oak Pointe Elementary School kicks off fourth annual Pal-a-Thon Rock ‘N Run

IRMO, SC - In front of a packed assembly full of excited students, faculty and staff, Oak Pointe Elementary School kicked off their fourth annual Pal-a-Thon Rock ‘N Run, the school’s major fundraiser of the year. Through this event the students come together for a common cause. “The Pal-a-Thon Rock ‘N Run is a great initiative to help students understand the importance of community service,” Oak Pointe Elementary School principal Cassy Paschall said. “This event teaches our students the importance of supporting a tremendous cause and that is what defines us as Pioneers! It is a bonus that it benefits our PTO.” The fundraiser awards “rock-n-roll” themed prizes for each dollar goal they reach. The money that is raised this year will be used to make playground improvements and pay for the rights to use the Quaver online program in music class. The Pal-a-Thon Rock ‘N Run caps off with students running, walking, skipping, dancing and exercising their way through 25 fun-filled laps with their classes on September 30. If the goal is reached, there will be a lip sync battle between the guys and girls in the administration. Not only will the money raised benefit OPES, but their PTO is also committed to raising money for Curing Kids Cancer throughout the 2016-2017 school year. September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and the school will be donating 10% of all money raised to Curing Kids Cancer. Paschall added that the Pal-a-Thon Rock ‘N Run is important for students to get out and be active. “We want our students here at OPES to get out and get moving,” Paschall said. “By having this fundraiser, it allows them to put down the video games and be a part of something beneficial for themselves and our wonderful school!”
