Three District Five football players selected for Shrine Bowl

IRMO, SC - Three football players from District Five have been selected to play in the 80th annual Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas game on December 17 at Wofford College. Chapin tight end Will Register, Dutch Fork receiver Austin Connor and Dutch Fork offensive lineman Malik Sumter were chosen for the South Carolina squad.

“This is a great honor for Will, but also for Chapin High School and the whole Chapin community,” Chapin football head coach Justin Gentry said. “We are all so very proud of Will and what he has been able to accomplish on and off of the field.”

“This is a great accomplishment for Austin and Malik to be named to this year’s Shrine Bowl team and represent South Carolina,” Dutch Fork head coach Tom Knotts said. “Their hard work and dedication on and off the field have paid off and we are so proud of their selections.”

At 6’5”, 250 pounds, Register has been a critical part of the Eagles offense and is committed to play college football at the University of South Carolina. Connor is a 6’0” 180-pound speedster that has given the Silver Foxes a deep threat in the passing game. And at 6’2” 280 pounds, Sumter is a force to be reckoned with up front for Dutch Fork.

The Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas is the oldest high school football all-star game in the nation. The annual game featuring many of the top high school players from North and South Carolina is played to benefit the Greenville Unit Shrines Hospital for Children and the 21 other Shriners Hospitals for Children across the nation. Tickets for the 2016 Shrine Bowl go on sale November 1. More information can be found at
