Red Bank, SC – A deep seated fire in heavy brush challenged county fire fighters in the Bridle Ridge neighborhood of Red Bank Sunday afternoon. Bridle Ridge is a small, one way in, one way out, single family neighborhood off Platt Springs Road near the Carolina Springs schools.

Firefighters responded from several county fire stations including Boiling Springs and Red Bank. The fire commander requested the assistance of a tractor plow unit from the SC Forestry Commission.

Eventually, the firefighters plowed a break completely around the fire. This contained the blaze, which continued to smoke overnight. They returned to the scene to make sure that the fire stayed within the break several times during the afternoon, evening, and night Sunday. The county also received several 911 calls Monday when commuters saw the smoke and called to report the fire again.

Because of the density of the brush that the fire was in, the fire may smolder for several more days. As long as it stays within the fire break, it should not be a threat to the community.

Lexington County fire officials have not released the cause of the fire.
