West Columbia adds Art to the 12th Annual Tree Lighting

West Columbia, SC - The City of West Columbia is hosting the 12th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting on Friday, December 2, 2016, at 6:30 PM, at the West Columbia Municipal Complex on the corner of North 12th Street and Jarvis Klapman Boulevard. Each year, West Columbia area elementary schools hold a “What Christmas Means To Me” contest. The winners from each school are honored at the lighting and read their winning essays or poems.

This year, in addition to the writing contest, student artwork from area elementary schools will also be incorporated into the event. The winning artwork entry will be featured on the cover of the event program and the top three entries will be displayed on the Art on State wall for the entire holiday season.

The program will include Christmas carols, greetings and the lighting of the West Columbia Christmas Tree. Student choirs from Pineview Elementary School and Brookland-Cayce High School will perform holiday classics, as well as, the River Bluff High School Steel Drum Band. Radio and television personality Joe Pinner will serve as master of ceremonies. Pastor Dow Welsh from Holland Avenue Baptist Church and Reverend Kenneth Taylor of Turner Memorial AME Church will be guest speakers at the event.

At the conclusion of the program, a reception will be held in the New Brookland Room of the West Columbia City Hall. Refreshments are being provided by local West Columbia restaurants, organizations and businesses.

Please join us Friday, December 2, 2016, at 6:30 p.m.
