Man seriously injured while burning debris in yard

Round Hill, SC (Paul Kirby) – A 36-year-old man was seriously burned near Round Hill Tuesday evening in an accident that occurred while burning outdoors. He had burns that were described as third degree by responders on the scene. Further details of the exact cause of the accident haven’t been released.

According to Harrison Cayhill, spokesman for Lexington County, the man was first treated by personnel from Lexington County’s EMS and then placed in a Lifenet helicopter for a flight to a medical facility for additional care. He was flown from the 300 block of Longs Pond Road near the I-20 interchange. This is in close proximity to the Love’s Travel Plaza truck stop.

Firefighters from the county’s fire service set up a secure landing zone near the interstate for the helicopter to land. They were assisted by law enforcement officers who provided traffic control so that the helicopter could safely operate.

A burn ban remains in effect for the entire county. This ban prohibits most outdoor burning that might be allowed if conditions weren’t so dry.
