Fire and EMS crews deal with overturned tractor trailer with downed power lines on Pond Branch Road

Gilbert, SC (Paul Kirby) – Around 2:00 p.m. Friday, Lexington County EMS and fire crews were dispatched to an overturned tractor trailer truck that knocked down power lines and started a small grass fire in the 2900 block of Pond Branch Road. This is close to Rawl’s Auto Auction west of I-20.

When firefighters arrived, they found a small grass fire had been started by the downed lines. There were several people trapped in a vehicle by those lines as well.

Representatives of the utility company were dispatched and ensured that the power was cut from the lines before rescuers could help the people from the vehicle. Law enforcement officers arrived and began assisting with the traffic that was backing up quickly.

Eventually, the road was reopened and the traffic returned to normal. The cause of this accident is being investigated by the SC Highway Patrol.
