Cayce area home damaged by fire Monday morning

Cayce, SC (Paul Kirby) – A single family home in the 1100 block of Starcrest Lane near Cayce was damaged by a fire early Monday morning. The county’s 911 center received the call regarding this blaze just before 9:00 a.m.

Firefighters and equipment from South Congaree, Gaston, Edmund, and other county stations were dispatched to the fire in the Starmount neighborhood of Charleston Highway. This is near the I-77 on ramp.

When the first fire officer arrived on the scene, he reported that there were flames and smoke coming from the roof of the small brick home. Firefighters pulled hoses to attack the fire as one truck stretched a supply line from a nearby fire hydrant. As soon as they arrived, the fire crews went to work and knocked down the fire. It was quickly brought under control.

According to a neighbor who was on the scene during the fire, the home was rented to a family that didn’t appear to be home at the time. She said that the family appeared to have several school age children living there as well.

The exact cause of the fire has not been released by the fire service.
