Fire damages one room and spreads to an adjacent silo at Diamond Pet Foods in Gaston

Gaston, SC (Paul Kirby) – Lexington County firefighters responded to a fire Monday afternoon at the Diamond Pet Food located at the intersection off Woodtrail Drive and Hwy 321 south in the town of Gaston.

Originally, the fire was dispatched as an automatic fire alarm. When personnel on site realized that it was actually a fire and not a malfunctioning alarm, additional equipment was added to the assignment.

When the first due firefighters arrived from the Gaston station, they found fire and smoke coming from one of the buildings on the property. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze.

Plant personnel described the area of the fire as a bagging area. The fire spread to a nearby silo that stores grains and other products used in the production of pet food, but that was quickly put out as well.

No one was injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
