Springdale PD K9 Team Receive Officer of the month

Springdale, SC - On January 24th, 2017, Springdale Police Department's K9 team was honored as Officer of the Month at the Greater Cayce West Columbia Chamber of Commerce January breakfast meeting.

Springdale Police Department's K9 team began in 2015 when the department purchased the police working dog. PFC McWilliams was designated as the K9 handler and the department decided that a fitting name for the all black German Shepherd was Bruce Wayne.

"These two have been a vital part of our team and they have done a lot to get and keep drugs out of our community," said Chief Kevin Cornett.

Over the past year the duo has played a significant role in combatting the illegal narcotics that are being used, distributed or transported in or through the Town of Springdale. The hard work and dedication from the team has led to seizures of methamphetamine, heroin, marijuana, ecstasy, cocaine, pills and has even played a role in building cases that involve illegal gun charges.

"It is always an honor to be able to recognize the hard work that the officers put in," said Chief Kevin Cornett. "It is one of the best parts of my job. The Officers of the Springdale Police Department do a phenomenal job, as do officers from all over the Midlands."

The team was recognized after a busy month in December of 2016 and was selected to receive the Officer of the Month award that is sponsored by First Community Bank.
