Family’s home burns on Bonnie Street in West Columbia

West Columbia, SC (Paul Kirby) – A mobile home on Bonnie Street in West Columbia caught fire Wednesday afternoon just after 7:00 p.m. Although firefighters from several jurisdictions arrived on the scene quickly, the home and its contents were mostly destroyed by the blaze.

West Columbia FD was the first to arrive on the scene. Their first due officer reported that smoke was pouring out of the windows on all sides of the single-wide when they pulled up.

Firefighters advanced their hoses and quickly attacked the flames while a water supply was established. Although they knocked the fire down quickly, most of the damage had been done prior to their arrival.

The crews from WCFD were supported by firefighters from Lexington County and the city of Columbia FD. These mutual aid companies are dispatched automatically by pre-signed agreements that send the closest help regardless of county, city, or other jurisdictional lines.

According to the social media post of the neighbors of the family who lived in the home, the family who was living there lost most of their possessions as a result of the fire.
