Vehicles on fire threatens business building on Leaphart Road

West Columbia, SC (Paul Kirby) – Firefighters from a number of Lexington County fire stations assisted by the West Columbia Fire Department made quick work of several vehicles that were on fire at All American Heating and Air on Leaphart Road Friday evening.

Callers began reporting the blaze around 7:30 p.m. Additional callers dialed 911 and reported that flames and heavy smoke were visible from the road. Those first reports indicated that the warehouse at the business was on fire. This is behind the office building that fronts the road.

An EMS unit arrived on the scene first and notified the in-bound fire trucks that the fire actually involved several vehicles and not the building itself. They also advised the firefighters that the building was being threatened, as were several storage containers and a trailer that was nearby.

West Columbia’s Engine #2 arrived first and that truck officer ordered that lines be pulled to fight the vehicles that were burning. She also had other firefighters play water on the exposures to keep the fire from spreading further.

As more units arrived from Lexington County, the firefighters joined forces and quickly brought the fire under control. The battalion chief that was on the scene supervising reported the fire under control within the hour.

The fire service hasn’t released the cause of the fire. They also have not released any estimated damages as a result of the fire.
