Midway students score with ‘Read with the Gamecocks’

LEXINGTON, S.C. — Two Midway Elementary fourth-graders combined to read more than 25,000 pages in just two weeks.

For their outstanding participation in the “Read with the Gamecocks” student literacy campaign, Aarushi and Anushka Shrivastava were recognized on the court during the University of South Carolina women’s basketball game versus Vanderbilt University on Thursday, February 16.

Both girls read 12,501 pages each during a two-week segment of “Read with the Gamecocks” this past fall. The girls tied for Highest Overall Reader from any participating school for those two weeks of the program.

During the first timeout of the game, Aarushi and Anushka received with a special plaque and were joined by their parents, classroom teacher and MES media specialist.
