Lexington mayor injured in auto accident

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – Lexington Mayor Steve McDougall was injured in an auto crash Monday afternoon.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Old Cherokee Road near McDougal’s home in the town. According to Lance Corporal David Jones of the SC Highway Patrol, a car illegally turned in front of a US Mail route vehicle, causing the crash. When the mail vehicle hit the car, it then skidded into McDougal’s truck that was also at the intersection.

McDougal was set to be the guest on the Good Morning Lexington County show Tuesday morning to talk about the things that are happening in and around the town of Lexington. His wife called the show’s host Monday night and said the mayor would have to reschedule because of his injuries.

Mrs. McDougal said that the mayor was not seriously hurt, but he was banged up and had been checked out by a doctor. She said that he was stiff and sore and was cancelling his appointments for Tuesday to rest and recover on the advice of a physician.

According to the SCHP, the driver of the car who made the illegal turn has been charged with failure to yield the right-of-way.
