Springdale police officers arrest man after he threw drugs into the woods after hit and run crash

Springdale, SC (Paul Kirby) - On March 4, 2017, at approximately 4:30 p.m., officers from the Springdale Police Department responded to a vehicle collision on Platt Springs Road in the area of Shasta Drive. When officers arrived at the scene, they were advised that one of the parties involved had fled the scene in his vehicle.
Witnesses to the accident followed as the man drove down a dirt road, Lonely Dr, where he got out of his vehicle and threw a jar in the woods. Officers arrived at that location and made contact with the 21 year old man.
During this encounter, officers searched the location where the witnesses saw the man throw the item in the woods. There they found a jar with multiple bags of Marijuana inside it.
Based on that discovery, the man was arrested. Officers were also able to locate a schedule IV narcotics that was not prescribed to the man. The man was transported to Lexington County Detention Center where he was booked on several charges.
Those charges now include possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a schedule IV narcotic, possession with intent to distribute in proximity to a school, and hit and run of an attended vehicle.
