Cayce DPS arrest suspect after gun goes off in attempted armed robbery of CVS

Cayce, SC (Paul Kirby) On March 09, 2017 at approximately 8:50 pm, the Cayce Department of Public Safety responded to an armed robbery call at the CVS Pharmacy in Cayce. The store is located on Knox Abbott Drive near State Street.

During the attempted armed robbery, several customers in the business intervened and disarmed the suspect. During the struggle, a gun the woman had with her while attempting to rob the store discharged. Neither the suspect nor any customers in the store was injured during the incident.

According to Chief Byron Snelgrove of the Cayce Department of Public Safety, officers arrived on scene and immediately arrested the suspect, Monteka Rena Stevenson, who was charged with armed robbery. Investigators believe that Ms. Stevenson has been involved in other robberies in and around the area.
