LCSD Sgt. Barrett home from Special Olympics in Austria
Cayce, SC (Paul Kirby) Lexington County Sheriff’s Department Sergeant Lee Barrett returned home from Austria yesterday after being a part of the Special Olympics’ Torch Run.
Barrett, as well as a number of other law enforcement officers from around the world, carried the Flame of HOPE to the Opening Ceremony in Austria. It took 10 days, and they ran through 49 towns and cities to deliver the torch for the Saturday evening opening ceremonies.
The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department was selected to carry the torch during the final leg of the relay. Each year, they raise thousands of dollars for the program that helps athletes with special needs participate in sporting events of all kinds.
