Fire burns same home on Singing Pines in less than three weeks

South Congaree, SC – A home on Singing Pines Drive off Platt Springs Road has caught fire and burned a second time in the past three weeks. The two-story home only received minor damage in the first fire, but was destroyed in the fire on Wednesday.

The fire was reported about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. A large column of black smoke could be seen in the sky from South Congaree. Firefighters came from across the center of the county, the north region, and the south to help fight the fire.

An engine laid a large diameter hose for water supply that disrupted traffic on Platt Springs Road. This type of hose is more than 5” tall when filled, and makes a road impassable. It is also very heavy and must be drained before the firefighters can move it from the roadway.

The firefighters did their best, but the home was heavily involved with fire when they arrived. Several vehicles were also damaged or destroyed.

The homeowner stood in the yard as she watched the crews battle the blaze. She was understandably visibly shaken by the events as they unfolded. Her family was gathering at the scene to offer their support after the tragedy.

The fire was declared under control by the commander on the scene at 4:27 p.m. No cause of the fire has been released. It appears as if the home will be total loss.
