Pedestrian killed on I-26 near Springdale this morning
Springdale, SC (Paul Kirby) The Lexington County Coroner and the SCHP are investigating a deadly crash involving a pedestrian that shut down the eastbound lanes of Interstate 26 just after midnight.
Rescuers responded to the eastbound lane at exit 113, close to Airport Boulevard, at about 12:32 a.m. Troopers closed the interstate between exit 111, which is Augusta Hwy or U.S. 1, and the 113, which is Hwy. 302, for several hours during the investigation. The interstate was reopened at about 5:30 a.m.
Ladder 5 out of South Congaree was on the scene most of morning. Engine 19 out of Pine Grove was requested later for a wash down of the road.
The victim's name has not been released by the coroner yet.
