Ramblin Road repairs are finally underway

South Congaree, SC (Paul Kirby) – The repairs to Ramblin Road are finally underway. Workers started digging last week and construction materials for the project are already on site.

The road was severely damaged during the October floods of 2015, causing the SCDOT to close it completely and set up a detour. Residents that lived along the road lost patience with that situation quickly. Eventually, many of them complained daily, and it became the topic of conversation at many gatherings around the area.

We also saw an increase of accidents at the intersection of Edmund Hwy and Princeton Road during the period since the road was closed.

Eventually, Senator Katrina Shealy and Representative Mac Toole organized a community meeting that was held at Congaree Elementary School. SCDOT officials did their very best to answer the public’s questions regarding the road's repairs, but many were not satisfied and were clearly angry and disgusted with the project.

Eventually, the DOT hired an engineering firm to evaluate Ramblin Road and a number of other roads that run across privately owned dams in the state. Once that engineering firm’s report regarding Ramblin Road was received, the DOT decided that they could repair the road.

In an earlier release, DOT officials have said that they are putting a new culvert and a junction box under the road. Then, they will repair the downstream embankment and the road bed itself. The work is expected to take about one month to complete.
