Car chase near South Congaree ends in crash and two arrests

South Congaree, SC (Paul Kirby) - A Lexington County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted a stop on a 2007 Crown Victoria for speeding and reckless driving Friday night in southern Lexington County. When he activated his cruiser’s warning devices, the driver of the car refused to stop, and instead initiated a chase.

Deputies pursued the fleeing suspect into the South Congaree area before the driver of the car crashed at the intersection of Edmund Highway and Old Dunbar Road near the old Creekside Mobile Home Park site. Both the driver and a passenger were injured in the crash, and were transported by Lexington County EMS to a local hospital for treatment.

Deputies searched the car where they found drugs. A check of the NCIC system showed that the vehicle had been stolen out of Richland County.

No deputies were injured during the incident. Both the driver and passenger are facing a handful of charges in connection to the incident.
