Gaston man arrested in 2014 cold case homicide in Calhoun County

Calhoun County, SC - Calhoun County Sheriff Thomas Summers has announced an arrest in the 2014 shooting death of Charles Tremone Brown.

According to the sheriff, Derrick Mills, 44, from Gaston, SC, was arrested by deputies in the early morning hours of April 25th at a residence near Eastover in Richland County.

“We have worked extremely hard in an effort to track down this fugitive, and earlier this morning, those efforts paid off,” said Sheriff Summers. According to the sheriff, his deputies have pursued numerous leads over the last two years and believe that the suspected shooter was out of the state for some period of time.

“I am very pleased that we were able to apprehend this dangerous individual without incident,” Calhoun County Sheriff Thomas Summers said. Sheriff Summers said his deputies were assisted by the United States Marshals' Fugitive Task Force and the Richland County Sheriff’s Office.

Mills is being held in the Orangeburg/Calhoun Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing by a Circuit Court Judge.
