Fire destroys abandoned home on Elm Ct. in Lexington

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – A fire broke out late Sunday night in what a spokesman for the fire service described as an abandoned home on Elm Court off Elm Street in the West Lexington area of the town of Lexington proper. First arriving firefighters found the home well involved.

This area is located southwest of the Main Street. This is not far from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department Headquarters and the county’s detention center. It has ample fire hydrants and a good supply of water, which helped the fire crews bring the blaze under control quickly.

Firefighters returned to the home several times during the night for rekindle checks. Their last response was just after 4:00 a.m. when they returned to wet down some smoldering debris in the garage area of the home.

The cause of the fire has not been released by fire officials.
